Winter morning on Bourget lake
An image from a few days ago done along Bourget lake near Aix les Bains in Savoie department.
This lake is one of the biggest natural lakes in France and is known for having inspired the famous poet Lamartine.
Other photos from this morning were posted yesterday on my french website, you can see them here.

Annecy lake, autumn morning at Albigny beach
Albigny beach is one of the most popular along Annecy lake because it's really close to the city (I could say in the city !).
This image was done in the early morning about 10 days ago, during a walk started before dawn.Others from this serie has been posted today on my website. You can check them from this page.

Horse Tail waterall in Haut Jura Natural Park
Horse Tail waterfall, aka cascade de la Queue de Cheval is one of the highest in Haut Jura Natural Park and the image above only shows the lower part.
I went the for a first visit yesterday but i was a little disppointed because despite the big rains we had recently, water level was really low and the fall not impressive.

Exploring Fornant river at spring
Rain had a short break yesterday. I decided to spend the afternoon with an explorative walk of the lower part of Fornant river.
My first idea was to go to its junction with the Usses river in Frangy.
Walking the forest path overhanging the river, i first made a few stops to make some images of all these lush greens. With all the recent springtime rains, every forest here looks to be a tropical one.
Then i just had to go on a little more to discover a kind of deep and green canyon were the river was running tumultuously.
The point of view "from above" was not very interesting so i started to search one way to reach the river. I finally found one scary but direct access to the other end of the canyon. The place was green wet and wild and filled with the noise of this small but powerful waterfall.

Long exposure around Pain de Sucre waterfall
Still posting images from my last outing to this waterfall. This one was done in the very late afternoon but i needed my Hoya ND 400 filter to get a long enough exposure for this effect on the "lake".
As we have an awful weather almost every day, i spend a lot of time browsing the net and looking at maps, searching for some interesting places to photograph and i found yesterday another waterfall named Pain de Sucre in Ain department. Actually, like Jura, this department really has many and many rivers and falls and is a very good photographic destination at spring and autumn.

Evening light on Duingt castle
After my first visit to this pretty monument last week, i returned there this evening. I waited a long time after dusk for something like a nice blue hour but i think that this one is my best.
It was done a little after 8pm and the long exposure was possible thank's to my Hoya ND 400 filter.

Long exposure on Glandieu waterfall
One more image from this serie i did in the first week of May.
Once more, i used my Hoya ND 400 filter for the long exposure in full daylight.

Houses along Geneva lake at Nernier
I returned yesterday to Nernier on the borders of Geneva lake. I wanted some images of the pier in the late afternoon.
Arrived soon, i took a little time to explore the village which is also known as the pearl of Léman lake. It's a very pretty place and makes me think to a little Saint Tropez in the Alps.
The weather was less cold than the day of my first visit but still fresh because of the wind blowing from North and giving a clear blue sky.
The long exposure in day light for this image is due to the use of my Hoya ND 400 filter.
Note : Images of my first day in Nernier where posted one month ago on my french website. You can have a look here.

Another winter scene in Fornant river and a few words about my portfolio on Whytake.net
I returned yesterday to Fornant river for another visit to the place i've discovered on monday.
The wind was crazy. I spent there just an hour according to the files times on my CF card but it seemed an eternity. The goal was to make some long exposure images of this little waterfall with my Hoya ND 400 filter, once done i went back home quickly.
Some weeks ago i've started to build a portfolio on Whytake.net.
Whytake.net is a community website for nature photographers. It's nicely done with some very good features and it's a nice place to show your nature images (nature only).
It's not a place for competition where photographers run after comments and fav but it includes a kind of blog where you can post updates in your portfolio and other things about nature photography. You can also follow other photographers you like.

Snow and ice on Fornant river
One more image from the beginning of the week done a few hours before the one i posted a few days ago.
When i arrived at the river, i was hapilly surprised to find some deep and strong ice. After a few tests, i started to walk on the ice, exploring the river for some interesting point of views. When i arrived where i made this image, i was looking for the best place to setup my tripod when the ice broke under my left foot and my leg plunged in the flow to the knee, filling my boots with really cold water.
I hesitated between continuing my work during all the afternoon with a wet foot by a temperatured really under -10 celsius and going back home. I choose the first option. Although it was really uncomfortable, this day was probably a unique occasion to make images of the cold winter here. I could work around the river until dusk and when i came back home, my foot had no trouble.

A cold winter morning along Fornant river
For a few days, we have a siberian weather here. Temperature is often below -10° celcius, strong wind and a little snow.
I went this morning to Fornant river because the canyon is naturally protected from the wind. I started with a few images of the river caught by the ice in a special places, the i went to Barbennaz waterfall and terminated by a walk along a part of the river i had left unexplored until today.
I made the image posted here in this last place, the long exposure in day light was possible thank's to my Hoya ND 400 filter.

Long exposure along Cheran river
Another image from a few weeks ago in the canyon of Chéran river. Done the same day than this other one.
The long exposure (around 168s) in day light is due to my Hoya ND 400 filter.

Weekly commented photo # 47 - Autumn in Cheran Canyon
When i went to Chéran river two weeks ago, i made an image very close to this one.
It was not the best time of the day and i was thinking too much to scout this new place so i did a little composition mistake.
Back to the office and editing the images, i looked at the file and decided to delete it and to re-make the photo with better conditions if possible.
I returned last week but it was in the early morning and this image needs to be done in the late afternoon.
So, i returned once more this afternoon. Arrived in the canyon, i ran directly to the right place and started by a few shots with normal exposures around 0.5 seconds.
Looking at my camera LCD, i found the water movements and the sky reflections unsightly and decided to make a very long exposure with my Hoya ND 400 filter. The result is the image posted above and for people interested in such details, the exposure was a little more than 200 seconds long.
After that, i walked a little along the river, did some photos of the water running between the rocks and about one hour later, i went back to my initial place under the very low light of the autumn dusk.
Without any filter, i could do two or three more images with exposures around one minute. After a close look on my computer display, i really think that my favourite is the first one done with the Hoya ND 400, just after my arrival.

Gour Bleu in Herisson waterfalls - Long exposure with Hoya ND 400
If you want to read a little more about the Hérisson range of waterfalls you can have a look at my previous post.
Gour Bleu is my fav from the 2 waterfalls i visited during these first days.
This image was done in the end of afternoon and the long exposure of 123 seconds was obtained with a very dark ND filter (Hoya ND 400).

Another addition to my long exposures with Hoya ND 400 collection.
