The soft light of a peaceful morning

Argentière beach - La Londe les Maures - Provence
Argentière beach - La Londe les Maures - Provence

We spent the saturday afternoon here with my wife, my daughter and some friends. I came back at dawn on sunday and did a few shots before the crowd. I love the light on this one.

Hesitating

Le Pradet near Cap Garonne - Provence
Le Pradet near Cap Garonne - Provence

I was not totally happy with the previous version of this image. I can't really explain why in english but i would say that today i find it a little too much. So i reprocessed my 3 exposures in Photomatix and finished with this one.

A lonely day at the beach

Beach of Péllegrin at La Londe les Maures in Provence
Beach of Péllegrin at La Londe les Maures in Provence

Same beach than the one shown here, not the same day, not the same place and at dusk.
More than 2 minutes exposure.

Some like me will find it a bit too empty, some will just love the calm and peace :)

A rainy morning at the sea - HDR

Le Pradet near Cap Garonne - Provence

Same scene, no GND filter but HDR from 3 exposures.
I didn't try to keep a similar rendition, this one is darker with more saturated colors.

A rainy morning at the sea

Mediterranean seascape at Le Pradet in Provence
Le Pradet near Cap Garonne - Provence

I was there really soon but had to leave the place before 9 am because the rain was too strong.
This one was done with a 0.9 GND filter. I also shot 3 other exposures to try an HDR version :)

One more mediterranean purple dusk

In provence special language, bau doesn't mean beautiful but it designs a kind of big rocks or cliff. So Bau Rouge means Red Rocks or Red Cliff.
This place is really my favorite for dusk colors.

Clouds over Toulon - HDR seascape or HDR skyscape

Clous over Toulon
Some clouds over Toulon - Provence

That's always the same story : Today was supposed to be a sunny day and i expected a beautiful pink daw on the buildings you can devine on the right of this image. So i jumped out of my bed at 5 am, prepared a big little coffee and drove to Toulon where i arrived at dawn. Light was really not as expected :) I decided to wait some hours walking on the beaches and at around 9 am (i guess) the sun said a little hello threw the clouds in my back. As this kind of sky can always be interesting for HDR works i rapidly shot 3 exposures and after that one more with a soft GND filter.

The one you can see above is the result of my HDR work and i have to say that it was a real pleasure to process. I'll show you the flitred one in the following days.

Playing with the Hoya ND 400 filter in full light

Winter morning at Bau Rouge beach
Winter morning at Bau Rouge beach - Provence

The Hoya ND 400 filter multiply the exposure time by around 500. So it can be difficult to use in low light but it can give some exposure around the minute when used in full day light.
The photo above was done in the early morning in january.

A typical coastline shot

Mediterranean coastline at Bau Rouge beach - Provence

I took this one around 2 weeks ago at the very end (or start) of Bau Rouge beach.
The wind was very crazy, i was expecting it to slow a little bit at dusk but it didn't listen to me :)

Blue hour on the Mediterranean sea

Blue hour over the Mediterranean sea- Toulon
Blue hour over the Mediterranean sea - Toulon

Toulon is the most important town of my region. It's a military place from centuries and the pier is always full of war ships. We don't go there very often but this week end some friends came to visit us from Corsica. On sunday evening they came back to their home in their island of beauty and so we had to bring them to Toulon so that they could take the boat. We arrived a little too soon and walked along the sea while waiting for boat time. That's during this little promenade that i had the idea of this image.
So today i left the office at the end of the afternoon and drove to Toulon with my camera. This shot was done around 7 pm and the exposure was around 200 seconds. Colors are natural and totaly unprocessed.

A famous beach under a dull light

Pellegrin - La Londe les Maures
The beach of Pellegrin - La Londe les Maures

So, after many days of rain it suddenly stopped last saturday and i spent most of the week end walking on the coast with my camera and tripod. That was fine but the light was always very dull. I mainly wanted to find some new places where i could return with better conditions.
On saturday i spent a little time on this place. During summer it's a very clean sand beach with thousands and thounsands of peoples. This day it looked a little more dirty and i think i saw less than 50 people walking. I could have stucked there during 2 or 3 hours expecting for a nice light around 5h30 pm with a low sky popping out of the clouds. But the main parking was behind me and it was quite sure that at this time all the walkers would came back and it would have been very difficult to catch just the right moment with the beautiful light and nobody on the beach. So i walked back to my car after a few snapshots and drove to some less civilized places ...

Mediterranean coastline on the Presqu'île de Giens

Same place, same day than the one in this previous post but a few hours before. Not the best hour of the day for landscape photography put it can certainly result in some typical postcards :)

Another view from my little trip on the Presqu'île de Giens.
I'm waiting for good weather to return there. This morning we had sun but now it's cloudy again ...

Other process

A winter afternoon at Bau Rouge beach
A winter afternoon at Bau Rouge beach

I've ever posted an other version of this scene.
This new one was done by manually blending 3 exposures without any real hdr work.

On wednesday i've received a new set of grad nd filters, mines where too old and scratched :)
Landscape photography is so unpopular in France than we can find such products in shop here. I had to order them in England ...

Dawn light on Bau Rouge beach

Dawn light on Bau Rouge beach
Dawn light on Bau Rouge beach - Carqueiranne - Provence

I've just done a 18x12 print and i love it. The sky is perfectly smooth and the rocks pop just how i like :)

Done with 4 exposures : 2 blended in Photomatix (average method) and used for the sky, a single one for the sea and the rocks are the result of a real hdr work with the 4 exp.

One from my (very) recent walk threw the Presqu'île de Giens.
For my regular readers, the Presqu'île de Giens is the land you very often saw on the horizon in many of my previous seascapes.

Warm light on Bau Rouge beach

Warm light on Bau Rouge beach
Warm light on Bau Rouge Beach

It was a cold morning but the light was warm.
Sky and sea are from a single shot and for the rocks i've blended a little of an hdr image done from 3 exp including the one used for sky and sea.

Yesterday i spent the morning processing files for a client and the afternoon hiking the coastline for new seascapes. It was a hard walk threw a pine tree forest devastated by some tempests. I came back at night, played with my daughter and sleeped too tired to blog and even to look at my shots.
