Dont fall in love, you may be changed to stone

Pénitents des Mées - Alpes de Haute Provence
Pénitents des Mées - Alpes de Haute Provence

This is a famous place in the north of Provence.
It was on my way while i was driving back from the Alps. I stopped the van, walked a little in the country and took a dizain of views which i just stitched with PTGui. (Click on the thumbnail for large view).

A legend say that these rocks are monks changed to stone by Saint Donat because they felt in love with some slaves captured during a crusade.

Is that village on the right the same one we saw in a previous post with a hint of the rocks? That's a pretty impressive cliff. We have a similar one here, looking out over the ocean, so it gets constant wind and has been used for soaring for many years.. paragliding, hang gliding and even real sail planes in the winter. My recent post of the sunset and pines is at the top of those cliffs. I can see why you would want to stitch this into a large file.. makes a great large panoramic print.. very nice!

J'adore ce coin! la photo a une très belle lumière!
Quand je descends de Savoie par l'autoroute, après un grand virage en descente, on découvre subitement tout le panorama... j'ai beau m'y attendre mais à chaque fois l'effet est magique...

Mark,

No this village is not the one you'r think about. This one is more in the south (i would tell about 80 km far).

Yes, stitching really helps for print here. I've the same shot done by cropping an image done with a 50mm. Definition is really not the same. The pano was done with a long lens but i don't remember the focal used.

Doomy,

J'ai fait cette route 2 fois par semaine durant plus de 5 ans (depuis Annecy) et je me rappelle très bien le virage en question :)

Pour la photo, il vaut mieux prendre les petites routes :)
