While making this image i was thinking about how i could have spend so many years without coming there. It's probably one of my favourite place in the world, perharps because i was borned in one of the building you can see in the background.
For readers interested in technical infos, i used 2 filters in this image : A 0.6 soft GND to balance sky and foreground and a Hoya ND 400 for the long exposure in full day light. The long exposure was desired there for its own and known effect but also to "erase" all the people who were there enjoying this quiet and beautiful autumn morning.
Note: I also wrote a longer but french post about the use of long exposure to hide some unwanted moving elements in a photo.
PS : My new office is ready :)

Gosh, nice. How long was the exposure after all that filtering, in order to remove the people?
(I'd have taken many photos and stacked them, probably...)
Love the photo Patrick, especially when made larger. Nice work... :-)
Thank's Tim and Glenn.
Tim, the exposure was about 13 sec long and as removing people with such a method is always a little challenge i made several shot and finally choose the one which was totally ghost free.
That's just the kind of shot where you can't be 100% sure about the result until you look at the images on a real screen.
Even in the digital era, we still need a little luck :)
That was a clever use of the long exposure.. not sure I would have thought of that.. maybe in the evening but not in mid-day light.
This shot reminds me very much of one you did previously in another location with the stone boat launch and looking across the water to the town.. know the one I mean? The perpendicular lines pointed directly at the foreground just like this. I think when a design element catches our eye one time, it can trigger the same response in a similar but different situation... I know it has with me:)
Yes Mark, i remember the image you're talking about :)
And i think you're totally right about our eyes and brain sensitivity.
