Annecy lake from the mountains

Photo of Annecy lake from the mountains
Annecy lake from the mountains

Another image from my visit tuesday to Forcalz pass.
It gives a nice overview of the area. You can see the lake surrounded by the mountains and in the far background, at the end of the lake, you can devine the city of Annecy.
Obviously, the light was not at its best ...

Duingt castle on Annecy lake, a view from the mountains

A photo of Duingt castle viewed from the mountains
Duingt castle viewed from Forclaz pass

I woke up at 4 am this morning to drive to the mountains over Annecy lake. I stopped at Forclaz pass or Col de la Forclaz in french, which offers some nice points of view on the lake. It's a very famous place for paragliders who can easily start here some very nice flights in a stunning environment between lake and mountains.

My initial idea was to make images of the lake surrounded by the mountains but the sky was really cloudy (not announced by the forecast) and the landscape was most of time covered with some unsightly shadows.
I was lucky with some sun rays and could catch this image of Duingt castle with a long lens. It shows the castle under an other angle that my previous shots and also give a better idea of the peninsula.

Summer landscape around Abbey lake

Summer landscape around Abbey lake
Summer landscape around Abbey lake - Haut Jura Natural Park

Another image from my first and only day around Abbey lake.

This one was done while looking for interesting points of view. I climbed a little mountain overhanging the lake, it was in the second half of the afternoon. Althought the light was not at its best, i did a little serie of images because i think they are a good illustration of the landscape in this part of Jura department.

Late evening on Annecy lake

Long exposure photograph of Annecy lake by a late summer dusk
Late evening on Annecy lake

I've just spent about one week in Haut Jura Natural Park to meet some nice friends. I just escaped one day for exploring a deep forest, after hours and hours of walking on little paths and climbing mountains, i went back at night without finding any good place for beautiful photography. Some days are like that ...

Yesterday i went back home for a little office work and in the evening i drove to Annecy for a few images around the lake. This one is the last i did and is also my own favourite.
Long exposure is due to the low light of the late evening and i balanced sky and lake with a 0.6 GND filter.

Evening light on Duingt castle

Duingt castle on Annecy lake - France
Evening light on Duingt castle

After my first visit to this pretty monument last week, i returned there this evening. I waited a long time after dusk for something like a nice blue hour but i think that this one is my best.
It was done a little after 8pm and the long exposure was possible thank's to my Hoya ND 400 filter.

Duingt castle on Annecy lake

Yesterday was a long day. It started before 5 am with a drive to Massif des Bauges Natural Park where i was hired by a client for a full morning shot.

When my work was finished i spent the afternoon exploring some new places in the park, sometimes driving, sometimes hiking. In the early evening, i reached the borders of Annecy lake and drove to this little castle. Located in a village named Duingt, it's mostly known as Duingt castle but i think historians prefer to use one of its other names : Ruphy castle or Châteauvieux castle.

The castle is built on a little peninsula on Annecy lake, it's about one thousand years old, and is registred as one of the historics french monuments.
Today, it's a private property and owners live in.

Grande Riviere church near Abbey lake

I left this blog during some long days because i had to work for some clients in Provence and i'm just back home since this night.
Before this little trip, i expected to find a few free time for some new seascapes but in fact i had absolutely no time for some personal photography.

I share today this other composition around the beautiful church of Grande Rivière from my last visit to Haut Jura Natural Park a few weeks ago.

I've also posted some images from Massif des Bornes on my french website.

Afternoon light on Abbey lake

Afternoon light on Abbey lake - Haut Jura Natural Park

One more image from monday.

This one was a little tricky to capture. I first had a few tries with my GND filters and after a look at the images on the camera LCD, i decided to also try 3 bracketed exposures for a future HDR work.
Back home, i first processed the filtered ones but i was not really happy with the results. So i took my 3 bracketed exposures and made my HDR processing with Picturenaut to get the image posted here.
The most difficult was to keep the reeds free of artifacts but my long experience of HDR landscapes gave me some tools to fix such problems :)

The church near the lake

I had a long drive yesterday through Haut Jura Natural Park to explore some new places around Abbaye Lake.
I noticed this lake one year ago while i was driving back from Hérisson waterfalls under a pouring rain. It's one of the most important lake in Jura department and the surrounding looked really wild in the storm.

It took one year before i had the opportunity to come back with a decent weather. I arrived there in the afternoon, walked along the lake, drove around the lake, climbed some hills but interesting points of view were rare and difficult to find.
In the evening, when the light started to be nice, i finally had 2 or 3 interesting spots in mind, this image of the church was done from the first one.

A cold time at Annecy lake

A reminder of the very cold 2012 winter we had here.
I stayed really late on that place this evening, waiting for a deep blue hour and i still remember the cold in my bones.

Houses along Geneva lake in Nernier village

Image of some houses along Geneva lake in Nernier, France
Houses along Geneva lake

An image from March, very similar to this one posted some time ago.
But if the first one was done with the Hoya ND 400 filter, this one was done without any filter and has a really shorter exposure.

On both images, I love how the houses are reflected on the water and how sky and lake meet and blend together.

One more image of Nernier from past month.

I've published an important update on my main website. Until last week, the only way to view my stock images was to browse the galleries but it's possible to reach directly all the images corresponding to a specific tag (or keyword).
For example all my images of Nernier can be found here.

Dusk light on Nernier harbor

One more from my last visit to Nernier.
It was not easy to get because the wind was blowing strongly at dusk time making the boats to move and many duks were crossing the lake leaving some "dirty" tracks on the silky water.

Houses along Geneva lake at Nernier

Long exposure image with houses along Geneva lake
Nernier, houses along Geneva lake

I returned yesterday to Nernier on the borders of Geneva lake. I wanted some images of the pier in the late afternoon.
Arrived soon, i took a little time to explore the village which is also known as the pearl of Léman lake. It's a very pretty place and makes me think to a little Saint Tropez in the Alps.

The weather was less cold than the day of my first visit but still fresh because of the wind blowing from North and giving a clear blue sky.

The long exposure in day light for this image is due to the use of my Hoya ND 400 filter.

Note : Images of my first day in Nernier where posted one month ago on my french website. You can have a look here.

Blue hour on Geneva lake

Photo of Geneva lake at blue hour in winter with the banks covered with ice
Blue hour on Geneva lake at Nernier harbor

Although the real name of this lake is Léman lake, out of France it's mostly known as Geneva lake. One part is french and the other is swiss.
The photo was made in France and the mountains in the backgroud are in Switzerland.

During the freezing cold we had a few time ago this pier looked like an artic place with amazing ice sculptures done by the wind.
I could go there only this afternoon. I was not sure to find some ice because the weather is a little more hot for some days but i wanted to explore a little this unknown place.

Blue hour on Annecy lake

One more image from 2 days ago. So it was a great sunday afternoon.

Cold was still really strong and i spent about one hour standing with my tripod in front of the lake photographing the changes of light during dusk time.
I'll post images from time to time here but i published the entire serie yesterday on my french website.

Weekly commented photo # 52 - Winter dusk on Annecy lake

Long exposure photograph of Annecy lake by a winter dusk
Winter dusk on Annecy lake

So that's the last week of 2011 and my Weekly Commented Photo project reaches its end (you can read a short introduction here).
It was a bit fun but not really easy for me french speaking photographer to find every friday some english words to put under a photo. At least, it was a good exercise :)

I went to Annecy on last friday expecting to find some snow on the mountains around the lake. As you can devine i was a little disapointed and i just found one or two interesting views at dusk time when the christmas light started.
A little time before i took this photo, the place was overcrowded by tourists. I don't know why but they all nicely disapeared in a few minutes.

The image was done with a soft and light GND filter. The exposure was 30 seconds long.

See you next year !

I july when i went to the Jura mountains to make some images of Hérisson waterfalls i slept in my van above this lake, just near the place where this photo was done. It was just a snapshot before going to bed.
