Little Africa sold for a book project

Little Africa in Provence
Little Africa in Provence

I report this sale here because i've told many times in my comments that i rarely work with the tourism industry.

That's a strange thing : France is one of the most visited country in the world. Provence is probably the second destination for tourists visiting France and tourism is certainly the first source of income in the region where i live.
But when it comes to buy a photo, tourism offices are always short of money so they are not the best clients for photographers.
At least i don't have to shoot crowdy sand beaches under the sun :)

That said, the image above was not sold to a tourism office but to an editor making a tourism book about extraordinary landscapes in France.
The price for this kind of usage is always really low but that's an old image and the editor also works with one of the biggest travel magazine.

HDR at the river and the first sales of the Ghost Forest

HDR landscape along the Malière river in Provence
Malière river - Provence

This photo was done the same day and is very similar to the one posted here some weeks ago. Today (it can change) i prefer this new one with almost no sky and giving so a more underwood impression.

I was very happy 2 days ago because i sold the first two prints of my recent Ghost forest image.

Usually when i work for a garden or pool maker i don't meet the villa owner. It happens only from time to time.
One interested in photography wanted to see me on tuesday. I went with my favorite kind of portfolio : a large box full of 18x12 (45x30 cm more precisely) prints. The man took 2 seascapes, ordered a 36x24 print of the Ghost Forest for his house in London and also took the 18x12 print of the same image to hang here in Saint-Tropez. Nice day :)

One nice and curious sale today

Today a marketing agency licenced this photo for an environmental project about water and forest.

For me that's a nice sale because i'm always pleased when my photos are used in some projects about our natural environment but i find their choice a little curious : This little stone cave was built to protect a water source in the forest around the Chartreuse de la Verne but we can't sea any water on this image. I wonder why they didn't choose one of my river or waterfall image instead of this one ?

10 images licenced for an environmental project

Massif des Maures landscape
Springtime landscape in the Massif des Maures - Provence

During the past week, an advertising company bought the rights on ten of my landscapes for an environmental project.
This project is about the construction of a big HQE builing. I think HQE is a french word, it means High Environmental Quality.

The images will be printed at large sizes and displayed for the inauguration by some french ministers.

Canva prints

I won't report all my sales on this blog but some are (unfortunately) unusual.

I recently received an request from a Canadian customer who wanted 2 large canvas prints of Mediterranean dawn and Water colors.
She wanted to hang both on her wall and needed exactly the same sizes for the 2 prints.
Mediterranean dawn originaly had a 5x4 aspect ration while Water colors had a 3x2.
I think some of my landscapes could not be cropped but after a quick try i found that the 5x4 version of Water colors was at least as beautiful than the original one.
My client also liked the cropped version and the sale was done yesterday.

As a photographer my favorite support for photographs is paper. It is the one which offers the best colors and details rendition. But i must say that large canvas can be very impressive on a wall and they don't need framing or matting.

450 000

Gorges du Verdon
Les Gorges du Verdon - The european Grand Canyon

In the north of Provence, there is one place known as the European Grand Canyon.
The place's french name is Gorges du Verdon. It's a very touristic place and wordly famous in the rock climbing comunity. A long time ago, i spent a lot of time there, just for climbing all these majestic grey cliffs. I was just near to live there, some friends did...

In 2004, i went back to meet some of these friends and shot some landscapes. I put some of them online and almost forgot anything about these images.
Last week, one of these photos has been sold to a french magazine printed at 450 000 units for beeing displayed on a full double page.

Of course it's not a bad image but surely not one of my fav.
And that's a common thing with licences sales : the licenced images are rarely the most beautiful. If someone can tell why, i'm interested...

Two big prints for a nice sale

French vineyard landscapeProvence vineyard landscape

Some french winemakers have just bought two of my vines photos to decorate a big commercial show.
I often sell such images to the wine market but the unusual thing this time is the print size :
Each photo will be printed at 3x2m (118x79 inches).

Just a few things

sunflower field landscape photograph
On Sunday i had my first sale on Etsy. Someone bought a 45x30cm fine art print of this sunflowers field landscape.

I've just updated the Useful Tools links list on the right column of this blog with one new link.
  • Zoomify provides a nice and free tool to make zoomable web images. Very simple, this tool permits to show some high definition images on the net. I think i will soon show some here and probably implement it in my panoramic images gallery on patmo.net.
